What is a booster compressor?

As its name suggests, a booster compressor means a pressure increaser. Standard systems used for compressing air in industrial facilities are usually designed for pressures of 80 to 190 psi (5 to 13 bar). However, some equipment requires higher pressures up to about 40 bar and even in some applications up to 350 bar.

A booster compressor compresses the air that has already been compressed in the compressor to higher pressures. The function of the booster compressor is to increase the pressure from 10 bar to 40 bar. The produced 40-bar air is directed to a high-pressure tank and, after filtration, will be ready for use.

Air boosters often start working by receiving pre-compressed air, so they consume much less energy. In some cases, boosters are also used to compensate for pressure drop along transmission lines.

Two-stage booster compressor
In this type of booster, pressure is increased using level differences. The output pressure can reach from 40 bar to 200 and even 1700 bar in several stages. The output air volume is low and suitable for testing valves, pipes, or devices with low air consumption. The inlet air must be dry to prevent combustion. It is also applicable for inert gases.

High-pressure booster compressor
A type of lubricated booster that operates at capacities of 90 to 300 cubic meters per hour with motors of 15 to 22 kilowatts. This type is used in PET container production and in harsh working conditions.

Advantages of the booster system
Lower maintenance cost compared to high-pressure compressors
Availability of two different pressures (10 and 40 bar)
Less space required
Ability to produce high volume at high pressure
Lower energy consumption and higher efficiency
